Falling Idols
Falling Idols, Brian Hodge. Silver Salamander, 1998. Limited 300. Like all Pelan's publications, this is a beautiful, sturdy book. And like all Hodge's short stories, these are meaty and thoughtful. Each one has religion as either a central theme or an underlying theme, but this is not a bad thing. I typically hate stories with religion involved as a focus. These are a definite exception. Hodge is quite a creative writer. And these stories require attention. Don't read this for fun; you won't enjoy it. But if you're in the mood for some contemplation, then you gotta try this book. Each story stands out and the final one is a perfect conclusion to the anthology.
